For the inaugural episode of the Gingeball Podcast, I spoke with Riley Cote, a former “enforcer” for the Philadelphia Flyers from 2006-2010.
In his own estimation, Cote’s job was essentially to be an aggressor and fight the other team’s enforcers to facilitate the tone and energy of the game. Basically, he was paid to be an absolute maniac and to be the meanest, baddest dude on the ice every single night.
But as you can imagine, it became difficult for Cote to balance the physical, mental, and emotional stressors of his job, while simultaneously maintaining holistic peace in his personal life.
In this interview, Cote discusses what he learned along his journey from being a kid playing hockey in the streets of Winnipeg to knocking out grown ass men in the NHL, and how he now uses what he learned in his post-career ventures that aim to help ex-athletes transition into the next phase of their lives with the help of cannabis, hemp, psilocybin, music, and yoga.
I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation!
